Good food and fresh air should never be underestimated in their ability to make a man feel good as new. The last couple of weeks have been a bit hectic, a little more than a fortnight ago, I got the stomach flu pretty bad, took me down to the floor for about 3 days in total. Took about a week before I could stomach more than toast and cereal not really the breakfast of champions, and I basically had no energy to do much of anything. Lots of schooling has been taking place, and little motivation to fill the spaces in between with quality engagement of life. I think some of it had to do with ski season ending and biking season still a ways away, at least up here. We all know that piss poor weather and stress isn't the best combination for good moods, but in short, I found myself metaphorically and literally stuck in mud season. Its definitely the easy way out to settle into a routine of apathy and depression in this lifestyle, but luckily, thats not really my style. I've got a friend who dragged my sorry moping ass out of the chair and worked me in the gym for a few days. I'm not really a gym rat, lots of testosterone and sweat, and the whole idea of it generally doesn't appeal to me that much, but working out the body, no matter how you do it, will make you feel better. Quickly I was sleeping well, enjoying consuming calories once again, and then the sun started shining. It's terribly difficult to stay inside with the with the prospect of endorphins and vitamin D just out the door. So this past week, I have ran, ridden, climbed, lifted, and gone to yoga, nine times in seven days, and it feels good. This morning, I had a nice breakfast(i.e. not dining hall food), french toast, two eggs over easy, bacon, an order of biscuits and gravy, and a side of hash browns and a nice cup of black coffee. Hell, i say, thats about all a fellow could ask for. Just pass me a some of that high alpine single track. Mmm.
