I realize that it is terrible to only write on account of the fire presently occurring a mile and a half or so north of my house, but this is at least as exciting as any of the other various topics on here. so, for those of you not glue to the up to the minute coverage via idiot-box, here it goes.
apparently the blaze started earlier today as several smaller fires, and was fueled by the (horrendous) WIND that so plagues us here in Boulder. From what I heard, the wind gusting over the ridge is the biggest obstacle in the way of containing this blaze. Any ways, it made for some nice picture taking, despite the panic around me. Cars being loaded, sprinklers being thrown on to roofs, that sort of thing.
this is a pic that shows the lenticular clouds formed by the chinook (foehn) winds that have been blowing across the boulder area all day. from my perspective, it seems as though the winds have died down, but at the same time, the inverse is true for the fire, so who knows.
This is, in fact, the second fire that the North Boulder Foothills have seen in the past eight or so years. And this one in mid-winter no less. Just goes to show how dry boulder is right now. It is also the second (maybe even third) blaze that i can see from our back porch. thankfully, we are all safe here at mi casa, and we are out of the way of the fire, knock on wood (or maybe pick something a bit more fire-retardant to rap your knuckles on at the present time).
And lastly, whoever is in charge of the fire danger sign needs to have a stern talking to...
