hot hot hot

something like 98 in the bubble today. you can practically hear your brain sizzling in your skull. too hot. managed to escape it yesterday with the pilgrimage to leadville for my third silver rush. it was downright chilly up there, a modest 80. still an improvement over the flatlands though.

The race was killer as usual, right now my legs are too sore to move, and my traumatic memory suppression is blocking any thoughts of the race from my mind. what i do remember though was the beautiful mining roads winding up through high alpine tundra with spectacular views of the collegiate range. climbs that limited your vision to the one square foot of blurred color which your feet trod one in front of the other for eternity, and rocky descents that are so fast, the only way you know that you just dropped 1000 vertical feet down is a pair of sore blistered hands and mud in every exposed nook and cranny.

The O.G. earlier this year rivaled the silver rush for the spot at the top of the race list, but this running of the sr only reaffirmed it's superiority. that said, this race isn't for everyone, and the race directors weren't bull shitting when they wrote the entry form.

In other news, Brae showed once again why he is perhaps the best junior on the planet at endurance mtb races by taking home second overall. OMV was not far behind, and finished sixth overall and taking the big V (v stands for victory) in the ss category. and yes, he is still only 15. I had a good race, dropped a good chunk of time off of last year and snuck in under 5:00 and in the top 20. great success!

The family and I will be leaving for europe on monday, so no posts for at least 2 and a half weeks. adios, or as the french would say au revior!

This is what it's about

The past two days it seems as though the creme has risen to the top of summer adventures.

Yesterday was a brutal ride with mike, 46 miles and change with well over 6000 feet of climbing.

busted out the green machine due to a feeling of discontent that had settled in the pit of my stomach after feeling uncool about wearing my b.d.j.s.s.t. shirt, and was thoroughly thrashed.

I think i am a full on 29er convert, to each wheel size, they both have advantages, but the 29er's stretch father and deeper than anything else. to me, riding a too small 26er only makes the 29er shine brighter, but more on that later.

visited some truely fine trails that I haven't seen in a while, and they were quite prime i must say.

today was a complete rewind, back to ski season, and on july 10th no less! poked around el valle de los gigantes with mike, dv8, and el padre. dad shot the pics, and i really enjoyed skiing in t-shorts and shorts.

I was certainly rusty, having not touched skis since sometime mid-april. but I am now very stoked on winter. Shame we have to go snowmass this weekend and i'm going to miss the slideshow at neptune's tonight. Quiero esquiar!

Ahhhhhh......................

nice to mix it up a bit. 3 days in the high country on foot with friends sans padres. one pass, one summit, lots of glissading, and a shame it had to be in the middle of the park on the busiest weekend of the year.

long couple a days lately, not for any specific reason to speak of, just the searing heat down on the flatlands. spectated the wednesday night worlds this evening which was fun. glad I wasn't racing. trying to get a ski sometime before this weekend, when I leave for a back pack trip with a bunch of friends up into RMNP. I must pat the backs of my parents, leaving all the preparation, packing, and excecution of a 3 day hike to a bunch of teenagers must be fairly tough on them. such is the life no? and now for some pictures!
